Prayers were offered at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi and Parmeshwar Mahadev temple in Ahmedabad on the third Monday of Sawan.

In Jaipur, scores of devotees thronged the Jharkhand Mahadev Temple for water anointment rituals dedicated to Lord Shiva. Similarly, the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain witnessed Bhasma Aarti earlier today as part of the celebrations.

On the occasion of 'Sawan Shivratri', several devotees visited the Mahakaleshwar temple to offer prayers. The month of Sawan, considered sacred in Hinduism, is believed to bring Lord Shiva's blessings to the devotees who worship him during this period.

Falling typically between July and August, Sawan is a month of worship, fasting, and pilgrimage. It is believed that Lord Shiva consumed poison to protect the universe during this time.

Devotees undertake fasting and offer prayers, symbolizing Shiva's compassion. Observing fasts, chanting mantras, singing bhajans, and performing Rudrabhishek ceremonies are common practices during this month.

Many devotees avoid grains and consume fruits and milk while chanting Shiva mantras and performing Rudrabhishek at various temples and households with fervour.
