The All-India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP) has appealed to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the Income Tax returns filing deadline for the assessment year 2024-25, attributing the request to the severe impact of floods in several states and landslides in Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh.
A memorandum from AIFTP national president Narayan Jain and Direct Tax Representation Committee chairman S M Surana highlighted ongoing problems with the Income Tax portal and software, complicating the filing and verification of various forms.
The memorandum further pointed out the lengthy process of paying self-assessment tax through banks and downloading challans as additional hurdles necessitating the extension.
