Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday stated that the state has suffered an estimated loss of Rs 15,000 crore due to unprecedented floods, heavily impacting infrastructure, agriculture, and other property. Since Monday, 24 people have lost their lives, and 1.28 lakh have sought refuge in 557 relief camps, officials reported.
Saha highlighted the scale of devastation, noting that the estimated loss might increase after a comprehensive assessment. An all-party meeting proved productive, with representatives pledging to work together. They recommended that the state government request a central team for damage assessment and additional aid, and suggested increasing financial support for those affected.
The government has announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh for bereaved families and Rs 2.5 lakh for those injured. Restoration efforts are in full swing, with directives for the food and civil supplies minister to prevent price hikes. Saha reassured the public of sufficient food and fuel stocks and close market monitoring. He also applauded the opposition for their cooperation, with BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty commending the CM's crisis management and the decision to hold the all-party meeting.
