Two individuals perished as they undertook rescue operations in flood-devastated Tripura, officials confirmed on Saturday.

Among the casualties were Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan Ashish Bose, washed away during a mission in South Tripura's Belonia, and jeep driver Chiranjit Deb, who drowned while rescuing three individuals in Indranagar, West Tripura.

The toll from the floods in the state has now reached 26, with 1.28 lakh people rendered homeless in what is deemed the worst deluge in the region in three decades. Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Manik Saha have both extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
