Lebong, Darjeeling witnessed a solemn farewell as residents paid their respects to Captain Brijesh Thapa, who fell during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir. His father, Colonel Bhuwanesh Thapa (retd), expressed pride in his son's sacrifice. Four soldiers, including Thapa, were killed in the operation.

Lebong, Darjeeling was enveloped in grief and pride on Friday as residents paid their last respects to Captain Brijesh Thapa, who died during a terrorist encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district. The funeral rites were carried out at the Ging Lamahatta Crematorium.

Captain Thapa, along with three other Indian Army soldiers, was killed in action on Tuesday. "I feel proud that my son has gained so much love. We are always ready to sacrifice our lives for the nation," said his father, Colonel Bhuwanesh Thapa (retd), expressing his pride as people gathered to honor his son.

Recalling his son's dedication, Colonel Thapa mentioned, "He always wanted to be in the Indian Army right from his childhood." The joint operation, involving the Indian Army and JK Police, led to a heavy firefight in Doda, recovering arms including 30 rounds of AK-47 and a grenade. LtGen MV Suchindra Kumar paid homage to the slain heroes, vowing support for the bereaved families.
