The National Conference will announce its candidates for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir once the notification for the first phase of the three-phased polls is issued, party Vice President Omar Abdullah stated on Sunday.
The notification for the first phase is scheduled for August 20, with polling slated for September 18.
'It has been less than two days since the election announcement. We need time for preparations. We will announce our candidates after the notification and hope for success,' Abdullah told reporters.
Addressing BJP's accusations of overconfidence following his comment about passing a resolution against the Centre's decision to revoke the region's statehood and special status, Abdullah countered, 'The BJP has exemplified overconfidence. They promised 400 seats in the Lok Sabha polls but stopped at 240. It does not behove them to lecture us.'
Abdullah also welcomed former PDP legislator Javid Mirchal to the NC, praising his connection with the people and commitment to developing Karnah.
'There were no preconditions for his joining. He is dedicated to resolving local issues, which we assure will be addressed if the NC forms the government,' Abdullah added.
