The Narcotics Control Bureau of Mumbai announced on Wednesday the arrest of Sufiyan Khan, a key figure in a drug syndicate, following an extensive operation. Khan evaded capture by frequently changing his hideouts and phone numbers since the bureau's recent crackdown on a major drug network in Navi Mumbai, which led to the seizure of 31.5 kilograms of mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant.

Khan was taken into custody at a lodge in Vashi on July 15, according to the NCB. The bureau describes Khan as an essential member of the drug syndicate, with operational roots in the Sewree area of Mumbai and a history of involvement in several cases. Investigations are ongoing.

On June 28, in a significant move to curb illicit drug trafficking in Mumbai and surrounding regions, the NCB seized 31.5 kilograms of mephedrone and apprehended three suspects. Officials reported seizing 10 kilograms from the group's operator Musharaf JK, another 10.5 kilograms from a female gang member, and 11 kilograms from an associate named Saif.

The police also confiscated Rs 69,13,400 in cash from the female gang member, identified as Nauseen. The drug network was found to be operating mainly in Mumbai's Nagpada and Dongri areas, with plans for expansion into other parts of the city.

A top NCB official revealed that initial intelligence pointed to a Mumbai-based syndicate. Through diligent efforts, the bureau identified the Nagpada-Dongri network operated by Musharaf JK. Due to elaborate evasive techniques by syndicate members, pinpointing their exact locations was challenging.

Relentless efforts and round-the-clock surveillance by NCB-Mumbai eventually led to the identification of several other key associates. (ANI)
