Shashi Tharoor, a member of the Congress Working Committee and the MP for Thiruvananthapuram, has sharply criticized the Kerala government for its inaction regarding the Justice Hema Committee report. Tharoor described the report as a 'smoking gun' that has been ignored for almost five years.
Speaking at the District Congress Committee office during the commemoration of Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary, Tharoor condemned the government for sitting on the report and only releasing it under pressure. He pointed out the contradictory statements from the Minister of Cultural Affairs, emphasizing that the commission was appointed by the government itself.
Tharoor stressed the indispensability of immediate action based on the report, lamenting the tarnished image of the Kerala film industry due to its unsafe environment for women. He argued that those responsible must be held accountable to protect future generations of women in the industry.
