Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on Sunday, unveiled a Rs 100 coin to mark the birth centenary of the late DMK president M Karunanidhi. He lauded Karunanidhi as a 'titan' of Indian politics and a cultural stalwart who advocated for social justice.
Chief Minister M K Stalin, son of Karunanidhi, received the coin during a notable ceremony. Singh praised Karunanidhi's significant influence beyond Tamil Nadu, detailing his resilience, determination, and dedication to public service as a five-time chief minister.
Karunanidhi's support for federalism and his role in coalition politics were emphasized. Singh recollected his advocacy for equal representation, including his insistence that chief ministers hoist the tricolour on Independence Day. Prime Minister Modi and Rahul Gandhi also extended their heartfelt greetings on this momentous occasion.
