The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested a key suspect in the Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tharir case, which involves attempts to radicalize youth and establish an Islamic caliphate in India, the agency said in a statement.

'Aziz Ahamed alias Aziz Ahmed alias Jaleel Aziz Ahmed was nabbed at the Bengaluru International Airport while trying to flee abroad,' the statement revealed.

The case, RC 01/2024/NIA/CHE, was registered by the NIA against six individuals influenced by the extremist, radical, and fundamentalist ideology of Hizb-ut-Tharir, an international pan-Islamist organization fighting to establish an Islamic caliphate based on Hizb-ut-Tahrir's founder Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani's constitution.

According to NIA investigations, the accused had conducted secret meetings (Bayaans), where many participants, particularly gullible youth, were radicalized with Hizb-ut-Tharir ideologies, which seek military assistance from elements hostile to India to achieve its goals. Aziz Ahamed was identified as one of the primary initiators of these secret meetings.

NIA investigations into the case are ongoing. (ANI)
