Indian Shooting Icon Abhinav Bindra Receives Prestigious Olympic Order
Abhinav Bindra, India's first Olympic individual gold medallist, has been awarded the Olympic Order for his significant contributions to the Olympic movement. The International Olympic Committee presented the award to Bindra during its 142nd session. Bindra's Olympic journey began in 2000, and he has since been an influential figure in promoting the Olympic values.
Abhinav Bindra, the celebrated Indian shooter and the country's first individual Olympic gold medallist, has been honoured with the prestigious Olympic Order. The accolade, bestowed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during its 142nd session, recognizes Bindra's 'distinguished contribution' to the Olympic movement.
Bindra, who clinched gold in the men's 10m air rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Games, expressed his gratitude, recalling how the Olympic rings had given meaning to his life since he was a young boy. He acknowledged the privilege of pursuing his Olympic dream for over two decades and highlighted his post-athletic career dedication to the Olympic cause.
The 41-year-old, currently the vice chair of the IOC Athletes' Commission, emphasized that the award would motivate him to continue contributing to the Olympic movement. First established in 1975, the Olympic Order is the highest award within the Olympic framework, recognizing individuals for their exceptional contributions.
