Jamia Millia Islamia has suspended a professor after a student submitted a complaint alleging sexual harassment, according to an official order released on Thursday.

The university's Internal Complaints Committee has begun an inquiry into the accusations. Efforts to contact the professor for comments on the allegations have been unsuccessful.

The complaint, submitted by a BA (Hons) Sanskrit student, described an incident where the professor allegedly called her into his official chamber and touched her inappropriately, also making unwelcome sexual advances. In response, the Officiating Vice-Chancellor has placed the professor under immediate suspension pending the outcome of the inquiry, in accordance with university statutes.
