More than 50 lakh vehicles have crossed the Atal Setu, India's longest sea bridge connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, since its opening seven months ago, according to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

In a statement released on Monday, the MMRDA reported that 50,04,350 vehicles, including Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses, Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) buses, and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation's (MSRTC) Shivneri buses, have used the bridge between January 13 and August 26. This translates to an average daily traffic flow of 22,000 vehicles over 227 days.

A spokesperson detailed the vehicle composition: 47.40 lakh cars, 50,020 minibuses and light motor vehicles, 59,799 double-axle vehicles, 73,074 three-axle vehicles, 80,277 four-six axle vehicles, and 503 oversized vehicles utilized the bridge. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12, the bridge's extensive use underscores its pivotal role in reducing congestion and travel time between various parts of Mumbai and its neighbouring regions.
