The development of Noida International Airport's cargo terminal and multimodal cargo hub in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is progressing swiftly in collaboration with Air India SATS, according to NIA Chief Executive Officer Christoph Schnellmann. The facility, upon opening, will boast a cargo capacity exceeding one lakh tonnes annually. Schnellmann also confirmed that construction on the passenger terminal is advancing rapidly.

'The development works on the cargo terminal and multimodal cargo hub are in full swing as well. We're working in partnership with Air India SATS, which has designed, is constructing, and will operate the facility. There will be a capacity for well over one lakh tonnes of cargo upon completion, with modular expansion capabilities to meet future demand. We plan to submit our application for the aerodrome license this year,' Schnellmann stated.

Schnellmann highlighted significant development milestones, noting an anticipated increase in flight operations and calibration flights for the instrument landing system scheduled for September. 'In October, we expect several validation flights for approach and departure procedures,' he added. The design of the passenger terminal will reflect North India's rich architectural heritage, particularly from western Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Jewar Airport on November 26, 2021. Strategically located about 72 km from IGI Airport, the facility aims to commence operations later this year, two years ahead of IGI Airport reaching its maximum capacity.
