The National Highway-306, which is key to Mizoram's connectivity with Assam, saw a significant protest on Thursday following a blockade call by vehicle owners and drivers protesting the road's dilapidated state.

This lifeline for Mizoram's supplies appeared deserted as the Kolasib unit of Mizoram Tipper Association enforced the blockade. Secretary F Lalbiakliana highlighted that all vehicles, including those carrying essential commodities, were halted, except emergency and essential services vehicles.

Lalbiakliana emphasized that repeated requests and discussions with the Mizoram government and National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) did not result in repairs. This has pushed associations to resort to a blockade. Meanwhile, the Mizoram Merchants' Association urged traders not to inflate commodity prices amid the strike, showing solidarity with the protesters.
