The Delhi transport department will merge its three zonal offices into one combined unit to increase work efficiency and optimize resource utilization, officials announced on Wednesday.

According to an official order, all administrative, operational, and public-facing functions carried out at the Surajmal Vihar and Loni Road offices will be transferred to the Mayur Vihar Zonal Transport Office starting August 27. 'In the interest of enhancing operational efficiency, optimizing resource utilization, and improving public service delivery, it has been decided to merge the zonal transport offices (ZTOs) located at Mayur Vihar, Surajmal Vihar, and Loni Road into a single, combined unit at the Mayur Vihar location,' the official order stated.

Despite the merger, driving test tracks at Surajmal Vihar and Loni Road will remain operational. Most departmental services are now online, eliminating the need for physical visits except for driving tests. A senior official explained that the zonal offices at Loni Road and Surajmal Vihar were functioning with skeletal staff and in dilapidated buildings, prompting the merger. The Mayur Vihar office, offering better infrastructure and proximity to a metro station, was deemed ideal.
