The National Test House (NTH), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, has signed an initial agreement with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) to promote energy efficiency across India. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focuses on fortifying the Standards & Labelling (S&L) Programme.

According to an official statement, BEE will recognize NTH as a referral laboratory for consulting on technical disputes regarding test results. Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal emphasized that BEE assigns star ratings to electrical appliances. To verify consistent performance, BEE has partnered with the Department of Consumer Affairs for market surveillance and reliable testing.

The MoU will see BEE integrating NTH officers into their technical committees due to their expertise, and NTH will offer capacity-building training to BEE officers at its regional laboratories and headquarters in Delhi. DoCA Secretary Nidhi Khare noted that this collaboration will facilitate consumer rights and support sustainable energy use, helping to reduce carbon footprints. The MoU was signed by BEE Secretary Milind Deore and NTH Director General Alok Kumar Srivastava.
