Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel Gain 34.4 Lakh Users in May
Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel collectively added 34.4 lakh wireless subscribers in May, while Vodafone Idea experienced a decline, according to TRAI data. Reliance Jio gained 21.9 lakh users, Bharti Airtel added 12.5 lakh, and Vodafone Idea lost 9.24 lakh users. Total broadband subscribers in India rose to 93.5 crore.

Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel saw a combined increase of 34.4 lakh wireless subscribers in May, as per data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released on Tuesday.
Reliance Jio, India's largest telecom operator, added 21.9 lakh wireless users, while Bharti Airtel gained 12.5 lakh mobile customers in the month. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea continued to struggle, losing 9.24 lakh wireless users.
The influx of new subscribers raised Reliance Jio's total mobile subscriber count to 47.46 crore in May, up from 47.24 crore in April. However, Vodafone Idea's subscriber base shrank to 21.81 crore, down 9.24 lakh from the previous month.
TRAI also highlighted that in May 2024, 12 million subscribers submitted requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP), bringing the cumulative MNP requests to 985.60 million since the initiative's commencement.
Additionally, India's total broadband subscribers rose to 93.5 crore by the end of May 2024, marking a monthly growth rate of 0.72 percent.
