Poland Investigates Potential Airspace Violation Amid Russian-Ukrainian Tensions
Poland is investigating a potential airspace violation after a drone likely entered its territory during a Russian attack on Ukraine. This incident follows previous airspace breaches involving missiles and drones. The Polish army is currently searching for the object with soldiers and a helicopter.
Poland has launched an investigation after a drone likely entered its airspace early Monday during a Russian bombardment of Ukraine. The incident has raised concerns as the object may have landed on Polish territory, prompting ongoing searches by the military.
The NATO-member has heightened its alert for airborne threats since a stray Ukrainian missile struck the village of Przewodow in 2022, killing two people. The latest scare comes after Russia fired over 100 missiles and approximately 100 attack drones at Ukraine, causing multiple casualties and damaging energy infrastructure. According to Jacek Goryszewski, spokesperson for the Polish army's operational command, the object's flight and speed suggest it was a drone, not a missile.
Goryszewski revealed that 100 soldiers and a helicopter are involved in the search. He also mentioned previous incidents, including a Russian missile found near Bydgoszcz in April 2023 and a reported airspace violation in December 2023. NATO-member Romania has similarly reported finding Russian drone fragments.
