The Bengaluru Police have called for the transfer of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and other accused in the Renukaswamy murder case from Parappana Agrahara Jail. City Police Commissioner B Dayananda made the announcement on Tuesday.
This move comes after a photograph emerged on social media showing Darshan in a relaxed state alongside a rowdy-sheeter on the jail's lawns. The image sparked controversy, depicting Darshan with a cigarette and coffee mug in hand. A video of the actor making a video call from the jail also surfaced.
The backlash led to the suspension of nine prison officials, including the Chief Jail Superintendent, for allegedly giving Darshan special treatment while he remains in judicial custody. Dayananda revealed that three cases have been registered related to the incident and are under investigation as authorities seek court permission for a detailed probe.
