New way to organize events on WhatsApp

Meta is introducing a new way to organize events in WhatsApp Communities. From setting up a virtual meeting to organizing a birthday dinner, events make it easier to plan get-togethers in the app.

The new feature allows anyone within a WhatsApp group to create an event, and participants can respond directly within the app. The details of the event will appear on the group’s information page, and attendees will receive automatic notifications as the event approaches.

Initially, events will be available to groups that are part of a WhatsApp Community, with Meta planning to expand it to all groups in the coming months.

In addition, Meta has introduced "Announcement Groups" - a new feature that allows group members to respond to announcements while keeping the conversation organized and minimally intrusive, as replies are grouped and notifications are muted.

"We’re also bringing replies to Announcement Groups, so admins can hear from their members while keeping these groups an easy place to catch up on what’s happening in your Community. Replies are grouped together and minimized so you can see what others have said in context, and notifications are muted for everyone," Meta wrote in a blog post on Wednesday.

Meta plans to roll out more new features to Communities and groups over the next few months, allowing users to keep their lives organized on WhatsApp.
