Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the designation of Veera Rani Kittur Chennamma's Samadhi in Bailahongala taluk, Belagavi district, as a nationally important monument. Siddaramaiah's request is rooted in the historical and cultural significance of the site under the AMASR Act, 1958.
Siddaramaiah highlighted the symbolic importance of the Samadhi, not merely as a memorial but as a symbol of India's fight for independence. The Chief Minister views this site as a testament to the courage of Rani Chennamma, who stood against the British East India Company in 1824, emphasizing the need for its preservation and development.
Moreover, Siddaramaiah sees the potential for increased tourism and regional development, noting that such recognition would elevate the site's visibility and contribute to the socio-economic growth of the region. He also stressed its educational value, urging the government to ensure future generations are aware of Rani Chennamma's contributions to India's freedom struggle.
