McLaren's team principal Andrea Stella confirmed that Lando Norris will be prioritized over Oscar Piastri in the Formula One championship battle against Red Bull's Max Verstappen. The announcement comes with McLaren eyeing both the driver's and constructor's titles.
Norris is currently second in the standings, trailing Verstappen by 62 points with eight rounds and three sprint races left. Piastri stands fourth, 106 points off the lead. Stella emphasized that while Norris will get the bias, the team will race without compromising their core principles of fairness and sportsmanship.
Stella explained that recent team discussions have been collaborative, with both drivers understanding the situation. This comes after a strategy misstep at Monza, where Norris lost out to Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. McLaren aims to avoid similar scenarios in future races, prioritizing team interest above all.
