Indian opener Smriti Mandhana has signed with the Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming 10th season of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), the team announced on Tuesday. The accomplished left-hand batter previously appeared in three WBBL seasons with Brisbane Heat (WBBL|02), Hobart Hurricanes (WBBL|04), and Sydney Thunder (WBBL|07). Notably, she scored an unbeaten 114 off 64 balls against Melbourne Renegades in WBBL|07. Mandhana's robust strike rate of 130 is expected to enhance the Strikers' competitive edge.

Adelaide Strikers issued a statement saying, 'Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana, a leading star in women's cricket, has joined the Strikers for the upcoming WBBL|10 season. This significant signing reflects the Strikers' commitment to maintaining a strong squad as they chase their third consecutive WBBL title.' Mandhana, who holds two ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year awards, shares this honor only with Australia's Ellyse Perry.

Mandhana has scored 3,493 runs in 141 T20Is for India, averaging 28.86 with a strike rate of 122.51, and hitting 26 fifties. Besides her international achievements, she is among the most sought-after players in women's T20 leagues. Recently, under coach Luke Williams, Mandhana captained Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to victory in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024. 'I always look forward to playing in Australia and am excited to contribute to a successful team like the Strikers,' Mandhana stated.

Williams also expressed enthusiasm, saying, 'Smriti is an exceptional talent, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Strikers. Her technical skill, experience, and strategic insights are tremendous assets.' He added, 'Her expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we drive for success in the upcoming season.' In addition, the Strikers have agreed to a pick trade with Melbourne Renegades ahead of Sunday's WBBL|10 Draft.

The draft will be held on September 1, with the Adelaide Strikers set to host the Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval for the season's first match on October 27. (ANI)
