Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has undergone shoulder surgery, the 25-year-old announced on Wednesday. This comes just days after she withdrew from the U.S. Open due to the same injury.
Vondrousova, who made it to the U.S. Open quarter-finals last year, revealed on Instagram that she had been contending with shoulder pain for several months, leaving her with no other choice but surgery. The Czech athlete, who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, also pulled out of the Paris Olympics after her Wimbledon title defence ended in a first-round exit in July.
"Everything went well and I'll start rehab soon," Vondrousova wrote. "See you back on the court happy and healthy."
