Telangana's Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday urged officials to formulate plans transforming the state into a national sports hub with the ultimate goal of developing Hyderabad as a future Olympic host.

Addressing a meeting on the establishment of a proposed world-class sports university, Reddy highlighted Hyderabad's history of hosting the Afro-Asian Games and stressed the need for the city's advancement to host future Olympic events.

Reddy emphasized identifying and promoting sports in which the country and state can excel, encouraging aspiring athletes. He advocated bringing all university sports departments, government-run schools, academies, and training institutes under the new sports university's purview.

He proposed comprehensive training for athletes in disciplines like shooting, wrestling, boxing, archery, and hockey, which have medal-winning potential.

Additionally, he recommended setting up sports schools in every Lok Sabha constituency and conducting thorough studies on the training regimes of recent Olympic medalists. The sports university is likely to be named 'Young India Sports University,' aligning with the state's existing 'Young India Skill University.'
