The Congress party has announced the appointment of B Mahesh Kumar Goud as the new president of its Telangana unit, effectively replacing A Revanth Reddy.

According to a statement by AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Goud with immediate effect. The party has also expressed its appreciation for the contributions made by the outgoing PCC president, A Revanth Reddy.

The appointment comes in the wake of a meeting between Congress president Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi with Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, where they discussed possible organisational changes within the state's Congress unit. While there has been no official word on the meeting's agenda, it is understood that choosing a new Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president was a key discussion point. Notably, Reddy continued to serve as the state's Congress president even after assuming the role of chief minister at the end of last year.
