Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma stressed the importance of hard work and self-belief for young players aiming to excel in the shortest format of cricket. Speaking as a member of Purani Dilli 6 during the ongoing inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), Sharma shared his insights and optimism about the team's journey.

The first edition of the DPL commenced on Saturday at New Delhi's Shri Arun Jaitley Stadium, where Purani Dilli 6 faced South Delhi Superstarz in their opening match. Although led by Rishabh Pant, the side suffered a defeat, but Sharma remains hopeful for the upcoming games.

'I'm very excited for the Delhi Premier League. The League is happening for the first time in Delhi. My message for young players is to keep working hard and believe in your abilities. This format might be cruel, but with trust and effort, you can succeed in any format,' said Sharma, as stated in a release by Purani Dilli 6.

Additionally, Sharma expressed his excitement about playing alongside Rishabh Pant and other team members. Despite the discouraging start, Purani Dilli 6 made a remarkable comeback in the second half of the innings before ultimately losing the match.

Prior to the start of the opening match, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) honored Purani Dilli 6 batter Rishabh Pant for his contribution to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. Purani Dilli 6 is set to play East Delhi Riders on Tuesday and West Delhi Lions on Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
