Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday felicitated star hockey player Amit Rohidas at the Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, celebrating India's recent bronze medal victory at the Paris Olympics.

Praising the 31-year-old as a great pride of Odisha, CM Majhi honored Rohidas' contribution to the Indian hockey team and highlighted his inspirational role for the state's youth. The Chief Minister assured that Odisha's sponsorship of the Indian hockey team would continue until 2036.

Rohidas presented a signed Olympic jersey and mascot to the Chief Minister, who noted these would inspire upcoming hockey talent in Odisha. Additionally, the state government announced a cash reward of Rs 4 crore for Rohidas, Rs 15 lakh for each player, and Rs 10 lakh for support staff.

The bronze medal win, led by captain Harmanpreet Singh's brace and PR Sreejesh's crucial saves, saw India triumph 2-1 over Spain. This marked the first time since the 1972 Munich Games that India secured consecutive bronze medals, with Sreejesh's emotional final game adding to the historic moment.
