In a grand display of national pride, the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hosted an epic send-off ceremony for the Indian Paralympic team. The event, which took place on Thursday, marked a historic moment as India's biggest-ever contingent of 84 athletes gears up for the Paris Paralympics. The athletes will compete in 12 sports including archery, athletics, badminton, canoeing, cycling, blind judo, powerlifting, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo, according to a press release from PCI.

Speaking at the gathering, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya lauded the athletes for their ability to overcome obstacles. 'Our para-athletes have shown immense determination and perseverance in their preparation for Paris Paralympics 2024. Many have benefited from the Khelo India initiative and now stand ready to compete on the global stage. The government remains committed to providing them with all necessary resources,' he stated, ensuring the nation's united support for their journey.

Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, wished for a historic medal tally, reflecting on the pride brought by the Tokyo 2020 Games. 'Under PM Narendra Modi's dynamic leadership, para-sports are treated on par with other sports,' she highlighted. PCI President Devendra emphasized the dedication and passion of the athletes, expressing confidence in their ability to inspire millions and make the nation proud. The event also saw the launch of the anthem 'Macha Dhoom' by music directors Vivek - Abhishek and a commemorative book 'Breaking the Barriers,' celebrating the team's achievements and aspirations.

With an ambitious target of at least 25 medals, a significant leap from the 19 secured in Tokyo, the Indian Paralympic team is poised for a record-breaking performance. The nation stands in solidarity with the athletes, inspired by the rousing send-off and unwavering support.
