India's HS Prannoy commenced his maiden Olympic campaign with a commanding straight-game win over Germany's Fabian Roth in the men's singles competition on Sunday.
The 32-year-old from Kerala, overcoming a two-week battle with chikungunya before the Paris Games, showcased remarkable fitness and resilience, securing a 21-18, 21-12 victory in a 45-minute match of Group K.
Prannoy will face Le Duc Phat of Vietnam on Wednesday in his final group match. Roth, ranked world No. 82, tested Prannoy with intense rallies, but the Indian player upped his game to clinch the first set and dominated the second set with sharp smashes and precise net play.
