Olympic Games Apologize for Introducing South Korea as North Korea During Opening Ceremony
The organizers of the Olympic Games issued a deep apology for mistakenly introducing South Korea's athletes as those from North Korea during the opening ceremony in Paris. The South Korean Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism has requested a meeting with the IOC President and plans to file a strong complaint with the French government.
The organizers of the Olympic Games have publicly apologized for a significant error during the opening ceremony in Paris, where South Korean athletes were introduced as representatives of North Korea.
During the parade, the South Korean team waved their national flag as they floated down the Seine River, only to be mistakenly announced in both French and English as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) addressed the mistake, issuing an apology in a post on X in Korean.
Following the incident, South Korea's Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism Vice Minister Jang Mi Ran has sought a meeting with IOC President Thomas Bach and plans to lodge a formal complaint with the French government. The ministry underscored the need to prevent such errors in the future. IOC spokesperson Mark Adams described the mistake as 'deeply regrettable' and assured that corrective measures would be taken.
