The political heat over the ethnic conflict in Manipur intensified as senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot criticized the response of both state and central leadership. Gehlot, former Rajasthan chief minister, stated that the recent apology by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh was insufficient and called for Singh's resignation if he couldn't manage the situation.
Gehlot further accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of neglecting the crisis in Manipur. He said that while Singh apologized to the people, the central government failed to act, with Modi not even visiting the state amidst the turmoil that claimed over 250 lives since May 2023.
The Congress leader also linked the inaction to wider political issues, drawing parallels with the convenience-driven approach needed for dissolving nine districts in Rajasthan, contrasting with the BJP's focus on expenditure. Gehlot's comments followed the Rajasthan government's decision to dissolve districts and divisions formed by the previous Congress government for pragmatic reasons.
