Manipur's Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, has accused Congress of politicizing his apology over recent ethnic violence in the state. Singh contends that his apology was a heartfelt expression of sorrow for citizens displaced by the violence and argues that Congress' past actions are to blame for current turmoil.
Singh's apology, delivered through a social media post, was met with political criticism. At the heart of Singh's statement was a call to forgive and move on from past troubles. However, he criticized the Congress for introducing politics into the matter, highlighting previous decisions that have affected Manipur's stability.
The Congress responded by questioning why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not yet visited Manipur. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted Modi's global travels while noting his absence in addressing the crisis in the northeastern state since May 2023.
