Reetika Hooda: Defying Family Tradition for Wrestling Glory

Reetika Hooda, a 22-year-old wrestler from Rohtak, has defied family traditions and battled rigorous weight-cutting challenges to excel in the 76kg weight class. She initially competed at 72kg but transitioned to 76kg to pursue success in the Olympic weight class, a decision that proved fruitful as she qualified for the Paris Olympics.

Hooda's journey has not been easy. Wrestlers often endure painful weight-cutting processes, sometimes going without food and water. However, Hooda's team ensures she takes additional small meals, including chicken—a significant departure from her vegetarian family traditions.

Reetika credits her mother, Neelam, and nutritionist Mitali for her dietary adjustments. Neelam, a school-level basketball player, learned to prepare chicken from YouTube to support her daughter's protein intake. Hooda believes in destiny and hard work, principles that have guided her from handball to wrestling and now to Olympic qualification.
