Formula E is in discussions with three major Indian cities to potentially bring the race back by 2026, top officials of the all-electric racing series told PTI on Friday.

The Hyderabad round was removed from the 2024 calendar following a change in Telangana's government, which did not prioritize hosting global motorsport events. This change in focus led to a breach of the multi-year agreement with Formula E.

Despite this setback, India remains a crucial market for Formula E. The organization is aiming for a comeback, with efforts concentrated on having the race reinstated by December 2025. ''Due to the change of government, we had to leave Hyderabad despite it being a fantastic race,'' said Formula E co-founder Alberto Longo.

Talks are ongoing with three Indian cities, though details remain undisclosed. Formula E remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainability through street races, with preference for street race models. The FIA World Championship event could also be hosted at Greater Noida's purpose-built facility near Delhi.

Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds expressed disappointment over Hyderabad being dropped, calling India a key market with its Indian teams, driver, and strong fan base. Dodds also noted that while street races are ideal, fixed circuit tracks in India shouldn't be ruled out, similar to Formula E's return to China.
