Jaime Lozano Sacked as Mexico Head Coach After Copa America Exit

Jaime Lozano has been relieved of his duties as Mexico's head coach following their disappointing exit from the Copa America at the group stage, the country's football federation (FMF) announced on Tuesday. The governing body revealed that Lozano had been offered an assistant role until the 2026 World Cup before potentially reclaiming the head coach position until 2030. However, the 45-year-old declined the offer.

Mexico is set to co-host the next World Cup in 2026 alongside Canada and the United States. The FMF stated that a comprehensive review is underway to analyze mistakes and successes, and to identify areas needing improvement for future processes.

Despite his short stint, Lozano achieved notable successes, including winning the 2023 Gold Cup and reaching the final of the CONCACAF Nations League. With 10 wins, four draws, and seven defeats under his belt, his tenure has been considered substantial. Reports suggest that Javier Aguirre, who previously managed the team at the 2002 and 2010 World Cups, may take over the position.
