Leon MacDonald, the assistant coach of the All Blacks, has resigned following unresolved disagreements with head coach Scott Robertson over the team's strategy and direction.

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) confirmed the departure on Thursday, ahead of the All Blacks' two-test tour of South Africa. Despite four wins from five tests under Robertson, the relationship with MacDonald reportedly grew strained over differing rugby philosophies.

Robertson, speaking to reporters in Christchurch, stated, "We've come to a mutual agreement which we feel is the best for the All Blacks moving forward, that he steps away." NZR's Head of Professional Rugby and Performance Chris Lendrum lauded the decision to reassess, expressing hope for MacDonald's future in New Zealand coaching. The All Blacks will not replace MacDonald this season, assigning his duties to other assistant coaches.
