A public deputation, led by former Katra Block Development Council (BDC) chairman Sham Lal, is advocating for the swift completion of a passenger ropeway to the revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, according to officials.
The delegation, comprising members from various Panchayats, met with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) CEO to discuss the Rs 250-crore ropeway project cleared from Tarakote Marg to Sanjichhat. It promises to drastically cut travel time for pilgrims, from six hours to just six minutes, particularly aiding the elderly and disabled.
Despite facing resistance from certain stakeholders concerned about potential impacts on livelihoods, the deputation is pressing for immediate continuation of the project, emphasizing its importance for pilgrims and local communities alike.
