As Cyclone Dana intensifies over the Bay of Bengal, the Odisha government has ramped up evacuation efforts, deploying 288 rescue teams across 14 districts, according to officials.
The state, supported by the Indian Air Force, has mobilized 19 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams alongside other local rescue teams to aid the evacuation of over 10 lakh residents from vulnerable coastal areas. The Odisha government has also arranged protective measures for lives and property as the cyclone approaches.
The Indian Meteorological Department warns that Cyclone Dana, with sustained wind speeds expected to reach 110 km/h, could bring dangerous weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and squally winds, prompting a prohibition on all marine activities in the Bay of Bengal.
