The inaugural phase of Guwahati's smart street lighting initiative was officially launched by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He highlighted the project's significance, emphasizing its role in citizen safety and energy efficiency.
The new streetlights, which carry a price tag of Rs 83.96 crore, are designed to be centrally controlled and monitored. Chief Minister Sarma took to the platform X to announce the project's commencement during the festive season.
This extensive system, comprising 11,000 LED lights across nearly 1,000 roads, offers features like remote monitoring, auto-dimming past midnight, and real-time tracking to ensure quick responses. The expansion of Guwahati necessitates such measures for enhanced safety and security, complementing the installation of CCTV cameras around the city.
