A deep depression has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is likely to cross near Puri on the Odisha coast by noon, according to the IMD. The system moved north-northwestwards at 8 kmph in the past six hours, now lying about 70 km south-southeast of Puri.

The IMD further predicted the system to travel west-northwestwards across Odisha and Chhattisgarh over the next two days. A red alert has been issued in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Cuttack, and Dhenkanal.

Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in these areas, with isolated spots possibly receiving extremely heavy rainfall. Fishermen have been warned not to venture out to sea until September 11.
