In a significant developmental stride, 54 settlements of the Pahadi Korwa community in North Chhattisgarh will soon be connected through newly constructed roads. This is part of the ambitious Prime Minister JANMAN scheme, according to a government official on Saturday.

The initiative focuses on connecting habitations, particularly those of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) with a population of 100 or more. It aims to link them via all-weather roads through the flagship PM Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) scheme.

In its first phase, the scheme has sanctioned 51 roads spanning 189.53 km in Surguja district, with construction already begun on 47 of them. A budget of Rs 157.17 crore has been allocated for this phase. Additionally, an executive engineer of PMGSY has proposed the construction of 40 new roads covering 148.99 km in the second phase. Currently, Chhattisgarh is home to five PVTGs, including Pahadi Korwa, encompassing a population of around 1.80 lakh.
