Thirteen people were killed and two injured due to floods in Indonesia's North Maluku province. Heavy rain caused significant damage, including the destruction of ten houses in Ternate city. Authorities have issued warnings and deployed teams for evacuation and ongoing rescue efforts.
Thirteen lives have been claimed, and two individuals have been injured following severe floods in Indonesia's North Maluku province, authorities reported.
The disaster struck after heavy rains since Saturday, leading to significant damage, including the destruction of ten houses in Ternate city, according to the country's disaster management agency, BNPB. Forecasts suggest the heavy rain could continue, prompting BNPB to issue warnings urging residents to remain vigilant and follow official guidelines regarding potential floods.
BNPB has dispatched a team for evacuation efforts, while the search and rescue agency Basarnas is actively working to rescue victims. In a stark reminder of the region's vulnerability to such disasters, flash floods and mudslides in West Sumatra province claimed over 60 lives in May.
