Kerala police have detained a couple concerning the death of a 75-year-old woman whose body was discovered in their backyard three days ago.

The Alappuzha police stated the couple was apprehended in Karnataka and is currently undergoing extensive interrogation.

'The arrest will be recorded soon. As of now, there are only two accused in the case,' a senior police official informed the media.

The official mentioned that further investigation would be carried out, and the accused will be brought for evidence collection after obtaining court custody.

The senior police official also described the incident as a 'murder for gain.' The body of the missing woman, Subhadra, was located in the couple's rental home backyard near Mannancherry on September 10.

The woman had disappeared on August 4, prompting her son to file a complaint with the Kadavanthra police in Kochi. Authorities believe she was murdered on August 7.

Investigators found that Subhadra had traveled to Mannancherry and was living with the accused couple, Mathews and Sharmila.

Subsequently, the couple, both in their thirties, went missing.

With the couple unreachable, police visited their house with a cadaver dog, which detected the body's location.

Sharmila, originally from Udupi in Karnataka, was familiar with Subhadra.
