Himachal Pradesh Battles Flash Floods: Homes Destroyed, Roads Closed

Flash floods triggered by a cloudburst devastated Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, sweeping away three houses and significantly damaging another, leaving four families homeless, according to officials on Thursday.

The deluge, which occurred late Wednesday night, thankfully claimed no lives. Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Manali, Raman Sharma, reported that the Beas Kund Power House was also damaged in the floods. Immediate financial assistance of Rs 15,000 each was provided to the affected families, who are now being temporarily accommodated.

Authorities are currently assessing the full extent of the damage, with 19 individuals from four families affected. The floods also disrupted major transportation routes, including a stretch of National Highway-3 in the Lahaul and Spiti district. Commuters have been advised to travel only if necessary. Additionally, fifteen local roads were closed and several transformers damaged due to the inclement weather. A 'yellow' alert has been issued, warning of more heavy rainfall in the coming days, potentially leading to further disruptions and damage.
