Monsoon Havoc in Himachal: 41 Roads Closed, Heavy Losses Incurred

Light rainfall has wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh, causing the closure of 41 roads and severe disruptions, officials reported on Monday. The state emergency operation centre indicated that 144 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents since the monsoon began on June 27.
The financial impact is substantial, with losses estimated at Rs 1,217 crore. The districts most affected include Mandi, Kangra, Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, Kinnaur, Lahaul & Spiti, and Una, where roads remain closed, exacerbating the crisis.
The local MeT office has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning in isolated regions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rainfall has affected power schemes and continues to concern authorities. Narkanda registered 27 mm of rain, while temperatures in Lahaul & Spiti and Bilaspur varied significantly, highlighting the state's varied climate.
