The women's wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Durga Vahini, organized a protest march in Kolkata, seeking justice for the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. The group is calling for strict actions against the accused.
Ritu Singh, Chief of Durga Vahini, accused the Bengal government of involvement in the incident. 'This fight will continue until we achieve justice. How can one man earn so much from the hospital and how could he enter the premises with such ease? The government is complicit,' Singh asserted.
Arnimita Pal, another Durga Vahini protester, reiterated that the protests would not cease until justice is delivered. 'Everyone involved in this case should be punished. We will continue our fight until they are,' Pal stated.
The junior doctor's body was discovered in a seminar room of the hospital on August 9, igniting nationwide protests. A civic volunteer and Dr. Sandip Ghosh were arrested, the latter for alleged financial misconduct. Jyotiraditya Scindia from BJP criticized Mamata Banerjee's government, claiming it fosters an environment of fear and violence, endangering women and the general public.
