On Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated a series of raids across Jharkhand and West Bengal, arresting three suspects as part of a money laundering investigation linked to alleged illegal infiltration by Bangladeshi nationals, according to official sources.
Arrests took place late at night in West Bengal, targeting Rony Mondal, Sandeep Chowdhary, and Pintu Haldar, identified as potential touts. Authorities indicated more arrests could follow as parts of 'incriminating' evidence were seized, including fake identity documents and illegal arms, across 17 different locations.
The raids occurred on the eve of the Jharkhand elections, drawing political backlash. The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and the Congress accused the BJP-led Center of exploiting the situation to sway voter opinions, suggesting the actions were politically motivated rather than addressing genuine infiltration concerns.
