Global Emissions Forecast: A Rising Challenge Amidst Climate Action
Global fossil fuel emissions are on the rise, projected to reach 37.4 billion tonnes in 2024. India and China see significant increases, while US and EU emissions decline. Despite challenges, progress is noted with increased adoption of renewables and declining deforestation rates.

In a recent global study unveiled at COP29 in Azerbaijan, fossil fuel emissions are set to increase by 0.8% in 2024, potentially marking an unprecedented year of high atmospheric CO2 levels. The research predicts emissions hitting 37.4 billion tonnes, driven by notable rises in India's and China's carbon outputs.
China, responsible for 32% of the world's emissions, may see a marginal rise of 0.2%, while India's emissions are forecast to spike by 4.6%. In contrast, the United States and the European Union are on track for reductions, projecting declines of 0.6% and 3.8% respectively.
Although emissions continue to climb, experts cite evidence of significant climate action, such as the penetration of renewables and electric vehicles. However, challenges persist, with international aviation emissions expected to rise sharply, and land-use changes contributing to ongoing global carbon challenges.
